Itinerary

Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen

  • Arrive at Tangier’s port or airport and be welcomed by our team, as is customary for Morocco-organized vacations.
  • Depart for Chefchaouen with a stop in Tetouan, known as the “City of Spain” for its historical ties to the Spanish protectorate.
  • Transfer to your accommodation in Chefchaouen and enjoy free time to explore the scenic blue-and-white streets, historic houses, and panoramic views.
  • Overnight in a charming riad with breakfast.

Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis Ruins – Meknès – Fez

  • Depart for Fez, bypassing the Rif Forest until you reach the Roman ruins of Volubilis.
  • Optional local-guided tour of Volubilis’ ancient sites.
  • Continue to Meknès to see Bab Mansour and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, then proceed to Fez.
  • Overnight in a lovely riad in Fez.

Day 3: Fez Sightseeing with a Local Guide

  • After breakfast, enjoy a full-day guided tour of Fez el-Bali, the kingdom’s intellectual city.
  • Highlights include madrasas (Koranic schools), Chahrij, Bouinania Madrasa, Fes el-Bouinania Mosque, and the bustling souks.
  • Time to relax and spend the night at a beautiful riad.

Day 4: Fez – Ifrane – Azrou (Monkey Forest) – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

  • Travel from Fez toward the Middle Atlas, stopping in Ifrane, renowned as the “Switzerland of Africa” for its European-inspired architecture.
  • Continue to Azrou, passing through cedar forests and the Berber monkey habitat.
  • Visit the Ziz Valley, noted for fossils, then transfer to a 4×4 for desert crossing to your desert camp near Merzouga.
  • Enjoy a Berber welcome tea and a night beneath the starry sky at the desert camp.

Day 5: Merzouga – Nomad Visit – Erg Chebbi Desert

  • Optional sunrise over the dunes.
  • Return to Merzouga, shower, and then visit a Gnawa music community and a nomad camp.
  • Explore remnants of Paris-Dakar routes and desert landmarks; tea with desert nomads.
  • Overnight at the desert camp or a boutique lodge.

Day 6: Merzouga – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Ouarzazate

  • Journey to Rissani, known for its authentic southern souks.
  • Visit Todra Gorge, famous for its towering cliffs.
  • Continue to the Dades Gorge and on to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco,” including a visit to Kasbah Taourirt.
  • Overnight in a riad in Ouarzazate (or a nearby boutique hotel).

Day 7: Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Telouet – Marrakech

  • Morning visit to Taourirt Kasbah, then to Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site used in many films.
  • Cross the Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass to Marrakech.
  • Check in to your riad in Marrakech; evening at leisure to explore the medina.

Day 8: Marrakech Day Tour

  • Guided tour of Marrakech highlights: Koutoubia Mosque (exterior), Ben Youssef Madrasa, Bahia Palace, Jemaa el-Fna, Saadian Tombs, and the souks.
  • Optional visits include Menara Gardens, Majorelle Garden, and the Marrakech Museum.
  • Overnight in a charming riad.

Day 9: Marrakech – Essaouira (Coastal Extension)

  • Drive along the Atlantic coast to Essaouira (Mogador), a historic port city with a fortified medina.
  • En route, pass through argan forests and visit local cooperatives.
  • In Essaouira, explore the harbor walls, beaches, and historic sites; choose from activities such as horseback riding, camel rides, quad biking, or a seaside stroll.
  • Overnight in Essaouira riad.

Day 10: Essaouira – El Jadida – Casablanca

  • Travel along Morocco’s coastal route to Casablanca, stopping in El Jadida to explore the Portuguese citadel (Cité Portugaise).
